We left our session proposals in San Francisco
by Larry Garfield
Another year, another DrupalCon. But what a DrupalCon it will be! Set in beautiful (and hilly) San Francisco, "DCSF" is expected to be the largest DrupalCon yet. As well it should be, with Drupal 7 right around the corner.
As usual, Palantir will be out in full force, ready to teach the world about Drupal. While probably won't be able to present every idea we have, you can help decide which of our sessions are selected by casting your votes on the conference Web site before March 1. So what do you want to see?
Will it be Zen theme maintainer and theme system guru John Wilkins talking about What's new in Drupal 7 theming? Or what about ways to make themers love you and your modules?
Perhaps your interests lie more in the design and process arena. In that case, you may want to hear Joomla! refugee and Palantir UX guru Steve Fisher discuss ways to turn that UX frown upside-down. Or see him team up with themer extraordinaire and process maven Colleen Carroll on how to make teams work magic.
Competing for geekiest session this year is Palantir owner George DeMet. You probably like Drupal and you may like science fiction, but did you know you could learn how to run an open source company from sci-fi? (It's true!) Vote it up and find out how. (Insider tip: The last time George gave a business session, at Drupalcamp Chicago, it was one of the highest rated sessions for the whole day.)
If your interests are more on the code side, we've got no shortage of options for you. Curious about the node access system? Ken Rickard is one of the few people who actually understands that system, and he's up for talking about all of the fun new stuff in Drupal 7's node access system or, if you prefer, about the darling of node access, the Domain Access module. (Did you know you can run multiple sites on the same Drupal without using multi-site? You totally can...)
If Web 2.0 is more your cup of tea, perhaps you'd be interested in Services maintainer Greg Dunlap's idea to talk about all of the things Services can do for you. (Well, for your Web site, really. I suppose that's you by extension.)
Just in case George's sci-fi idea wasn't geeky enough for you, DrupalCon regular Larry Garfield is back with the latest iteration of Databases: The Next Generation. (Do you really want to see the same jokes again? OK, if you say so...) If you'd rather I spend time on new material (but not new jokes), we could discuss how to extend Views, or provide a gentle introduction to object-orientation in PHP. If you really want new jokes, though, ask me about the top ten signs you're doing it wrong. Really, I'll be nice.
And if all that isn't enough Palantir, you could also just ask to see us all on stage together to talk about Drupal 7, and where it's going to take us, you, and the world.
Clearly we can't give all of them, because that's 13 session proposals and you know that's bad luck. Plus, we'd like to have some time to see other people's sessions, too. So go vote and let us know which you want us to do. (And tell us soon, because we need to start making slides!)
