Drupalcamp Chicago 2009: Ending the year in style

by Larry Garfield

It's been a little over a week since Drupalcamp Chicago, which means we've had time to catch up on sleep and look back on Chicago's largest Drupal event to date. Executive summary: That was awesome, we are so doing that again!

This was Chicago's second Drupalcamp, following up on last year's more grass-roots-y 150 person event. This year, we sold out at 350 attendees packed into the beautiful Hotel Orrington in Evanston. 22 speakers from 2 countries gave 24 presentations in 4 tracks on subjects ranging from getting started with Drupal to running Drupal web services with the services.module to the holy alliance of the Zen theme and the Panels module. As if that wasn't enough, there was also a second day of unconferencing with groups ranging from more personalized first-timer experience through a Drupal 7 coding table.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to make Drupalcamp Chicago such a success, especially our wonderful presenters. (The feedback we received from attendees was very positive.) And a big shout out to our organizing committee: Tiffany Farriss, George DeMet, Larry Garfield, Bec White, David Hwang, Doug Vann, and Matthew Lechleider.

For those who couldn't make it, videos of many sessions are already online and we should have most of the rest up shortly. And don't worry, there's much Drupaling to come in the new year.

We're looking at probably June for Drupalcamp Chicago 2010. Stay tuned to this and other channels for more details as they emerge, as we've already started developing some slick new ideas to make it rock. If that's too far away for your next Drupal fix, come by the next regular meeting of the Chicago Drupal Meetup Group (CDMUG) on January 12th.

And of course if you enjoy Drupal events you won't want to miss the grand-daddy of them all, DrupalCon San Francisco 2010 this coming April 19th-21st. Tickets are on sale now and DrupalCons always sell out, so get your ticket now. (If you need an extra incentive, Palantir is a Gold Sponsor again so your favorite Palantiri will be in attendance to spread the Drupal knowledge/love.)

Happy Holidays, Drupal!
